History

Under the mentorship of M. S. Golwalkar, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) embarked on an educational journey, establishing its inaugural Gita school in Kurukshetra in 1946. Unfortunately, the ban on RSS in 1948 cast a shadow over the expansion of this visionary educational model.

However, perseverance prevailed, and with the ban lifted, the first Saraswati Shishu Mandir school emerged in Gorakhpur in 1952, spearheaded by Nanaji Deshmukh. This pioneering effort ignited a wave of educational enlightenment across various regions, prompting the need for a structured management framework.

Thus, the Shishu Shiksha Prabandak Samiti was formed to synchronize activities among these budding institutions at the state level. Similar committees sprouted in Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, underscoring the growing momentum of this educational revolution.

In a pivotal juncture in 1977-78, Vidya Bharati emerged as the national apex body to oversee the collective endeavors of these state committees. Headquartered in Delhi, its establishment coincided with the Bharatiya Jan Sangh’s triumph in the national elections, marking a significant chapter in the intertwining of educational and political landscapes.

Moreover, Vidya Bharati’s National Academic Council, comprising esteemed educationists, garnered the endorsement of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), further solidifying its stature as a beacon of educational excellence.
